What Apple reported
Apple reported fiscal third quarter revenue of $109.4 billion, up 16%, and diluted earnings of $2.02 per share on July 30, 2026. Its 50.1% gross margin included an approximately two percentage point benefit from tariff refunds. The company attributed $0.11 of earnings per share to those refunds.

A cleaner comparison
The refund matters because a temporary benefit can make a recurring profit measure appear stronger. Investors should keep the reported figures intact and then show a separate sensitivity calculation. Mechanically subtracting $0.11 from $2.02 gives $1.91 per share. This is a simple illustration using the stated benefit, not a new company earnings measure.
The same discipline applies to margin. Removing an unusual item helps frame the comparison, but it does not prove that the remaining margin will persist. Product mix, component costs, services growth and foreign exchange can all change the next quarter.
What the growth means for shareholders
Stronger sales create an opportunity to spread fixed expenses over more revenue. The benefit to owners depends on how much additional gross profit remains after research, marketing and other operating costs. Revenue growth therefore should not be treated as an equal percentage increase in distributable cash.
A useful follow up is to compare operating cash generation with reported earnings and examine how cash is allocated among investment, dividends and repurchases.
The next test
Watch whether growth can continue without relying on the same temporary benefit. A repeatable improvement in demand and cash generation would support a different assessment from a quarter helped mainly by accounting timing. This review concerns the July release and does not claim to explain a current share price move.
