Reference rates update once per day. They are indicative conversion rates, not live bid/ask quotes, executable prices, or a trading feed. Availability and publication times may vary.
Every cell uses the same observation dates across the selected group. Cross rates are calculated through a common U.S. dollar base. Change is (current rate ÷ comparison rate − 1) × 100. Previous reading means the preceding shared observation; 1 week earlier uses the last shared observation on or before seven calendar days earlier. Weekends and holidays can widen the interval. Missing comparisons appear as a dash, never as zero.
Currency strength is the equally weighted average percentage change against the other selected currencies. It describes this group and period, not the entire foreign-exchange market. The mini chart shows available daily observations from the recent two-week window. Converters use the latest available reading for their selected pair, which may be newer than the heatmap’s shared date.
