Data notes & methodology
Classification, quotes, capitalization, volume and logos: CoinBeacon, with underlying CoinMarketCap data. We use the available free-beta snapshot, not the complete CoinMarketCap universe. Counts show unique covered assets, after removing duplicate trading aliases by asset ID. A classification can describe a sector, ecosystem, technology or reported portfolio theme; a portfolio tag does not verify current holdings.
Average price change is the equal-weight mean of available 24h returns. A small asset can affect this average as much as a large one. Market cap and volume sum available constituents only. The market-cap change marked “est.” holds current circulating supplies constant and reconstructs a prior value from current cap and 24h price change; it is not observed historical capitalization. Dominance sums reported member shares of the global market. Volume in BTC is a USD-value equivalent at the current Bitcoin price.
Gainers and losers use the direction of each available 24h price change. Unchanged assets are included in the percentage denominator; missing readings are excluded and counted separately. Sectors overlap: never add their capitalization or dominance to obtain a global total. Missing values are not zeros. A low constituent count or thin liquidity can make averages unstable.
Snapshots are checked approximately every two hours while requested to stay within the free allowance, and the page checks the shared cache every two minutes. Source fields may update hourly; a price can use a newer exchange tick. The source time and last-available state remain visible. The beta may change its coverage or limits.
Daily closing charts and global-market context: CoinLore. Cross-source coin histories require a unique matching name and symbol; unmatched histories stay unavailable. A sector chart is an equal-weight illustration of the current ten largest covered members with usable history, on common observation dates. It has selection/survivorship bias and is not an investable index or historical sector-cap series. Fear & Greed: Alternative.me; Ethereum gas: Blockscout. Global totals use a broader universe than the category table.
