About Derivatives Market

How does crypto derivative data differ from spot market data?

Spot data describes trades in the underlying asset. Derivatives data describes contracts linked to it, including perpetuals, dated futures and options. Open interest measures outstanding contracts; trading volume measures contracts traded during a period. Neither is the amount of cash deposited as margin.

How do funding rates, open interest and basis affect derivatives pricing?

Funding transfers payments between perpetual longs and shorts. A positive rate generally means longs pay shorts; a negative rate generally reverses that flow. Open interest helps measure participation but does not identify a net market direction: every contract has two sides. Basis is the difference between a derivatives price and its reference price.

How can this data support research and risk management?

Compare changes in positioning with price and turnover, and check whether funding is concentrated in a few contracts. Backtests should account for fees, funding intervals, slippage, missing observations and changes in contract coverage. Historical patterns do not guarantee future outcomes.

What does FOLITIC cover on this page?

Open interest and volume cover Bitcoin, Ethereum and Solana USDT perpetuals on Binance, separately or combined. The funding panel matches available Binance USDT contracts to the top 100 market-cap ranks. It is a covered-market view, not CoinMarketCap’s proprietary global aggregate.

Data notes & methodology

Open interest is USD notional from hourly observations; daily history extends to approximately 30 days. Combined readings include only timestamps shared by every selected asset. Yesterday, last week and last month use the nearest prior observation within the stated tolerance; missing readings stay blank. Full-year open-interest highs and lows are unavailable. Available-period highs and lows are labeled separately.

Trading volume is actual quote-asset turnover from completed candles. Daily chart history can extend to one year when supplied; recent charts use hourly candles. The 24-hour headline is a rolling calculation from the same provider and can differ from the latest closed daily bar.

Market-cap context is supplied by CoinBeacon from CoinGecko and has a separate, shorter history. It is not interpolated into derivatives observations. Volmex indices use TradingView’s official display and its own timestamps. No figures are estimates of missing futures totals.

Funding rates are normalized linearly to eight hours for comparison; this does not forecast the next eight hours or represent an annual investment return. Positive and negative counts cover available matched contracts only. Market-cap rank data is supplied through CoinBeacon from CoinMarketCap.

Page checks use shared server caches. Open-interest and chart history refresh approximately hourly, funding every 20 minutes, and quotes every 30 minutes while requested. Data can be delayed or revised. Cached readings retain their timestamps if a source is unavailable.
