The evidence

Chainalysis’s 2026 adoption report estimated $220.3 billion in cross border stablecoin value during its study period, up 77.5%. Its conservative monthly estimate rose from $11 billion in January 2025 to $24 billion in June 2026.

The method counts transfers only where both geographic endpoints can be attributed. Wallets that cannot be placed geographically fall outside that measure. These are research estimates, not a direct reading of nationality from blockchain addresses.

FOLITIC analysis

The analytical opportunity is to compare corridors consistently. Growth in one route can reflect payments, savings behavior or improved service access. It does not automatically imply that traders in that country are buying Bitcoin or moving money illegally.

Coverage changes also matter. If a researcher identifies more destination services, a measured corridor may grow even without an equivalent increase in underlying activity. A comparison is stronger when the same definitions and attribution coverage apply to both periods.

For a market participant, stablecoin movements can signal demand for settlement infrastructure without creating directional demand for volatile cryptoassets. The next destination and actual use of funds determine whether the transfer reaches a trading venue, a merchant or another wallet.

What to watch

Watch persistent corridor activity, transfer size distributions and the share of unclassified flows. Separate measured observations from estimates of the unobserved total, and do not equate a wallet’s service location with its owner’s residence.
