The evidence

Aave Labs reported that liquidations from January 31 through February 5, 2026 totaled about $429 million across roughly 12,500 transactions. The report described this as a record dollar amount for an Aave liquidation episode at that time.

It also emphasized that the protocol had grown. A larger dollar total did not automatically mean a larger impact relative to deposits. These figures describe that episode and are not a current liquidation alert.

FOLITIC analysis

Liquidation volume, borrower losses and protocol bad debt are different measurements. A transaction can repay debt and transfer collateral to a liquidator without leaving lenders with an equivalent loss. Treating the entire liquidated amount as money lost by the protocol would be misleading.

Transaction count is not necessarily the number of distinct people affected. A position may be processed in parts, and one user may control several positions. An analytical table should identify whether it counts calls, positions or unique addresses.

For market impact, the next question is how seized collateral is managed. A liquidator may sell, hedge or retain it. The liquidation event establishes forced debt management, while subsequent trades determine any direct pressure on spot markets.

What to watch

Compare liquidation amounts with deposits, available liquidity and residual bad debt over matching windows. A complete assessment also checks execution prices and collateral concentration rather than relying on a record headline alone.
