The development

The Solana Foundation announced Solana DvP on October 6, 2026 as an open source escrow program for delivery versus payment. It described isolated escrow and deadlines and invited early participants ahead of production release. J.P. Morgan provided input on settlement practices. The announcement explicitly says that input is not an endorsement or guarantee of the program.

FOLITIC analysis

Delivery versus payment links an asset transfer to its payment, reducing the risk that one party completes its leg while the other does not. An atomic implementation aims to make both legs succeed together or neither succeed. That is a specific improvement in settlement mechanics, not an elimination of every risk in the transaction.

The asset being delivered can still depend on an issuer, custodian or legal claim outside the blockchain. The payment token can have its own redemption conditions. Software defects, incorrect permissions and failures in connected systems remain separate issues even if the exchange of tokens is tightly coordinated.

Standardization could reduce the need for institutions to build a new settlement contract for every arrangement. The commercial test is whether firms can reuse the design while meeting their own asset restrictions, approval processes and reporting obligations. A code release does not itself demonstrate broad institutional transaction volume.

What to watch

Look for production milestones, integrations and published operating experience. Distinguish the Foundation’s security audit statement from an independent guarantee of loss prevention. Adoption should be measured through actual use and settlement quality rather than inferred from the presence of a major bank’s name in an announcement.
