The development
The FCA reported on September 25, 2026 that 21 CFD firms had closed since its 2025 intervention and three more were cancelling their permissions. The action concerned misuse of UK authorization, including arrangements in which related businesses operated overseas. The announcement does not mean that all 24 firms had already completed closure.

FOLITIC analysis: the logo is not the contract
A financial group can operate through several companies with different permissions. A website’s reference to one regulated entity does not prove that the customer’s account is held with that entity. The account agreement and payment destination need to be consistent with the claimed protection.
This matters particularly for derivatives because the investor has a contractual claim against a counterparty rather than direct ownership of the referenced asset. Disputes, withdrawals and treatment of client money depend on the applicable relationship and rules.
A practical reading of the news
The relevant question is not whether a familiar brand appears in an advertisement. It is which legal entity opens the account, whether its permission covers the service and which jurisdiction handles complaints.
For investors already holding positions, operational continuity matters alongside market prices. Changes in permissions can affect the ability to add exposure or transfer an account. The FCA’s announcement is a reminder to separate a provider’s marketing presence from its legal authority, without assuming that every affiliate shares the same regulatory status or compensation arrangements.
